Water meters across the Fox Chapel Authority (FCA) service area are approaching or beyond the manufacturer’s recommended lifecycle of 20 years. In addition to replacing aging water meters, these new meters will allow the FCA to implement an automated meter reading process which will provide better customer service, greater data accuracy, and reduced operational costs
New iPERL smart water meters began being installed by billing route in Fall 2023. Billing route can be found as the first two digits of the account number which appears on your quarterly water bill.

Meter replacements will occur by route over several years with a target competition of December 2027. Here is a summary of our progress through July 2026:

Smart Meters
New Sensus iPERL water meters will be installed at no cost to you.
With no moving parts, lead-free iPERL water meters maintain their accuracy over a 20-year lifetime. Initially, meter water consumption will continue to be read using the current drive-by mode. Fully automated meter reading will be phased in later, and will provide you with the ability to receive and act on leak alerts. The ability to quickly identify leaking water within the home will help eliminate unnecessary water loss, and save you from incurring these additional consumption costs.
