Fox Chapel Authority (FCA) is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern for a paid internship in the summer of 2022. This internship is for 40 hours per week, and both the start and end dates are flexible. The position will be based at our office at 255 Alpha Drive, Pittsburgh PA 15238 and routine data collection work will occur within our service area.
BACKGROUND: Fox Chapel Authority is a consecutive water system providing safe and reliable drinking water to all or parts of Fox Chapel Borough, Harmar Township, Indiana Township and O’Hara Township.
POSITION SUMMARY: The GIS Intern (“Intern”) will be responsible for collecting and digitizing large amounts of data related to water system assets such as curb boxes, valves and hydrants. Data collection includes locating the exact position of water system assets utilizing a high accuracy GNSS and a tablet with ArcGIS Field maps. The Intern will also enhance web maps used by field workers in their daily operations. The job entails a substantial amount of daily walking in various terrains (must be able to carry equipment weighing 30 lbs.).
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid PA driver’s license. We are offering $15 per hour with potential overtime.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES: • GIS related coursework such as Introduction to GIS or Intermediate GIS preferred • Civil Engineering or Surveying related experience preferred • Knowledge of and/or experience using ESRI software products and understanding of cartographic design, map creation, and data editing preferred • Relevant software application proficiencies, such as Microsoft Office and ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online • Detail-orientation and ability to collect accurate data and information pertaining to FCA water system assets.
